Last Friday night took an unexpected turn for 17-year-old Connor Lenahan when his Jeep began acting up after refueling at a Wawa in Bucks County. The normally reliable vehicle struggled to start and failed to accelerate correctly. According to a FOX29 report, this mishap marked the third car Connor has been through, through no fault of his own, as his mother Joan Lenahan ill-fatedly noted.
It appears that Connor was not alone in his experience. Greg Millevoi, the owner of Millevoi Brothers Richboro Automotive Inc., noted an influx of calls since Monday from customers experiencing similar car troubles, attributing the issues to gas purchased at Wawa. "I got a call from another service station and he says ‘Greg, listen, something is going on, like, every one of these cars, every one of my customers got gas at Wawa,’" Millevoi recounted in an interview with NBC Philadelphia. He anticipates repairing between 15 to 25 cars affected by the contaminated fuel.
Wawa was swift to respond to the unfolding situation, releasing a statement admitting to an issue with the fuel equipment on one of their tanks at the Richboro location. "Once aware of the issue, and the potential impact to fuel, we took immediate steps to correct it" Wawa assured, adding that they are working with their fuel equipment manufacturer to investigate the matter. The company, prioritizing customer satisfaction, encourages those impacted to submit a claim under their quality fuel guarantee, as shared by NBC Philadelphia.
Unfortunately, the consequences of the contaminated gas are profound, with many customers facing thousands of dollars in repair costs. While Lenahan was among the first to encounter the issue and had her son's car repaired promptly, other customers finding themselves at the mercy of part availability are not as lucky. As 6ABC reports, some are having to wait days for the necessary repairs to be made. In a climate where our mobility is inextricably linked to our machinery, the ripple effect of a simple tank of gas can weigh heavily on the working family's purse and punctuality to the commitments that structure our everyday lives.
