Residents hankering for a return to the norm following recent storms can tentatively mark early August on their calendars. This is when the city anticipates residential trash collection may finally stabilize. The second sweep of storm debris and bulk pickup, which kicked off last weekend, paves the way for this return to routine. As it zigzags from the north to the south sections of the city, the accumulation of debris is piling up, now topping the scales at 9,500 tons.
In the meantime, the city's Solid Waste Department is urging the community to temporarily hold off on special pickup requests. This cessation is necessary to quickly and efficiently clear the existing backlog of debris. Residents are reminded not to mix household garbage with bulk items, as further guidance is laid out by the city officials.
Aiding the expedited cleanup process, residents are asked to take a few simple steps. According to the City of Mesquite, Texas, locals should "separate bulk trash and other materials from the brush," ensure "vehicles are not blocking brush piles," and "monitor any brush piles so that they do not block the street." Furthermore, the city also makes a point to highlight the opportunity for residents to personally dispose of vegetative debris and bulk items at the City’s Convenience Center on Lawson Road.
