The City of Dallas has doubled down on bringing an array of creative workshops directly to the communities as part of its Summer Residencies program. These residencies are to continue bridging the gap in arts & cultural disciplines, specifically targeting areas typically not served by the traditional neighborhood cultural hubs, according to the City of Dallas.
This initiative features an array of free workshops that range from "Healing through Art" by 2 Inspire Peace, to the rhythm-infused steps of Latin American Dance with the Ollimpaxqui Ballet Company. Locations like Pleasant Oaks and Beckley-Saner Recreation Centers, along with several others, serve as the backdrop for these enriching programs. But remember, as the community's been duly noted, "Information is subject to change," so they'll want to confirm "dates & times with the venue", as per the City of Dallas.
The newsletter also delves into specifics, spotlighting the Swan Strings guitar sessions, which are opening the world of music to ages eight and up at Pleasant Grove Branch Library. Over at the Lake Highlands School of Music, the strings are set to sing well into September. Each workshop is designed to be accessible, aiming to entice residents to dip their toes into creative waters, or perhaps strum their first power chord.
Community engagement doesn't end at workshops. The City of Dallas is also extending an open-hand invitation to local nonprofits looking to sprinkle some artistic flair into their events. Organizations can tap into the Community Artist Program (CAP), which boasts a roster of talent ready and willing to perform. It's a move that promises to more firmly knit the fabric of Dallas' diverse communities by weaving in threads of artistic expression, made evident by the variety of available CAP Artists up for booking.
