After almost ten years, a cold case on an aggravated sexual assault has finally seen progress, with the Mesquite Police Department announcing an arrest. The department disclosed through a recent Facebook post that 27-year-old Jorge Post of Dallas, Texas, has been charged in connection with a brutal assault that took place on September 2, 2014. The victim, at that time, was discovered severely beaten and sexually assaulted beside a house on Moon Drive and was particularly vulnerable as a disabled individual, according to the Mesquite Police Department.
Despite the engagement of a sexual assault kit that later identified a male DNA profile, initial attempts to match the DNA with suspects yielded no results. The Mesquite Police officers, with support from the Dallas FBI Field Office, were persistent in their canvassing and interviews, but significant leads did not immediately materialize. It was not until recently that breakthrough DNA investigative work, spurred by the relentless efforts of a Mesquite Police lead investigator, unearthed a match and led to Post's arrest last Wednesday.
Post now faces charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault – Disabled Person, a first-degree felony, and is currently in custody. The Mesquite Police Department expressed their hope that the arrest could bring some much-needed solace to the victim, still bearing the scars of the ten-year-old ordeal. Their partnership with the FBI was hailed in their production for justice.
