In Wilmington, a woman's year-long theft spree has culminated in a five-year prison sentence, delivering a conclusion to her string of shoplifting and robbery offenses. Jasmine Williams, 36, was sentenced in New Castle County Superior Court after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including Robbery First Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Robbery Second Degree, and two counts of Shoplifting under $1,500, the Delaware Department of Justice announced.
Williams' crimes targeted various retail chains throughout Delaware, and the five-year sentence is to be followed by one year of high-level GPS probation, her criminal activities spanned from 2023 to 2024 and involved several retail chains including Boscov’s, Kohls, Walgreens, and Food Lion totaling losses of $3,709.11 in stolen merchandise. Attorney General Kathy Jennings spoke on the matter, underlining the gravity of the situation, “The actions of this woman caused serious damage and disruption to Delaware businesses and put innocent lives at risk- we must take that seriously,” Jennings said. “I am grateful to our team and the Delaware State Police for their work in holding her to account.”
The culmination of Williams’ illegal activities saw her escalating from shoplifting to armed robberies in 2024. On January 16, she was confronted by employees at a Food Lion located on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont, Delaware, but she brandished a pocketknife and fled with stolen merchandise; she similarly threatened employees with a knife during a theft at a Walgreens on January 25 on the 800 Block of Philadelphia Pike, escaping with several hundred dollars worth of goods.
