Residents of the unincorporated areas east of Argyle and west of Copper Canyon in Denton County are being alerted to the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) after local health authorities identified a positive case in a mosquito trap. In response to the detection of WNV, Denton County Public Health (DCPH) has announced a schedule for truck-based ultra-low-volume fogging, an attempt to control the mosquito population and mitigate the spread of the virus.
The fogging operation is slated to take place starting on Saturday and continue over the following two nights, with crews working between 9 PM and 5 AM, weather permitting. The upcoming sessions, which are a direct response to the detection, aim to reduce the mosquitos in the area, subsequently lowering the risk of virus transmission to humans.
DCPH is urging residents to take preventative measures to protect themselves from WNV. According to Denton County, Texas, this includes draining any standing water to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, dressing in long sleeves and pants while outdoors, and defending oneself with EPA-registered repellents containing ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.
