Early morning flames tore through an Elkridge apartment complex, leaving dozens without a home as first responders battled the blaze. The fire broke out before dawn and quickly spread to multiple floors, prompting a rush of crews from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services to the scene at the 6300 block of Orchard Club Drive. According to the Howard County press release, the firefighters arrived within minutes and escalated the firefighting operation to a two-alarm response.

The incident, which was reported shortly after 5 AM, resulted in severe damage to 14 apartments, displacing roughly 40 residents who now face the uncertain road of rebuilding their lives. The American Red Cross has stepped in to provide the victims with temporary housing and assist with their immediate necessities. In a statement obtained by Howard County's official website, the fire was reported under control within an hour of the firefighter's arrival.

Two dogs and a cat were lost to the flames. The toll included injuries as well, a firefighter and one resident were hospitalized with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Another resident received treatment on-scene and declined further medical attention.
