Elk Grove has been shaken by a disturbing family tragedy. Mark Navarrete, 44, has been arrested under the grim suspicion of having murdered his own parents. According to reports by ABC10, Navarrete called the police after claiming to discover his parents deceased in their home on Crosscourt Way.

Elk Grove Police responded to the scene last Friday and found both victims dead after Navarrete, who reported the incident, said he was concerned after being unable to contact them. In a development that escalated the situation, detectives searched Navarrete's residence on Sunday and seized evidence that implicated him in the murder of his parents, KCRA 3 reported. He is currently being held without bail at the Sacramento County Jail facing two counts of murder.

Police investigations were bolstered by surveillance footage acquired from neighborhood cameras. The footage, which showed Navarrete parking a short walk from the family home before entering and then driving away in his parents' car, was pivotal. The vehicle, identified as missing by Navarrete during his initial report, was later located where Navarrete had originally parked his car.

Neighbors described the victims as "loving, gentle and kind," who had been long-time residents of the locality and were much admired for their affection towards children in the neighborhood, thanks in no small part to a statement obtained by KCRA 3.
