Residents of Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood are expressing dismay over the latest wave of car vandalism, as a significant number of vehicles were damaged overnight. According to FOX 29 News, locals are fed up with the persistent destruction, with Mark Deitcher encapsulating the community's sentiment, "It's a nuisance," after resorting to taping and bagging his son’s car window.
Amidst growing concerns, the Philadelphia Police Department noted that the motivation behind these crimes is often the theft of small items, such as loose change. A resident of the area, Jess, told CBS News Philadelphia, "I've just taken valuables out of my car, but I never really kept much in my car." Jess also shared the fear that many in the community feel, adding, "I just hope I'm not the next target, but obviously, there's no way to predict that."
The consecutive incidents have left a noticeable impression on the neighborhood, heightening unease among those who call it home. One resident, Liz Platzker, expressed dismay to 6ABC, stating, "We are paying a lot of money to live here. It's a great place to live. It's a great city, but people are not going to continue to live here if their cars are broken into every other night."
Another resident, Linda, spotlighted the shared concern during a CBS News Philadelphia interview, lamenting, "I am concerned about what happens in the community," Linda said. "I was unaware of that many cars being vandalized. That's ridiculous."
