A head-on collision on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Malibu has claimed a life and injured two others, officials confirm. The accident, which involved two vehicles, occurred on Carbon Canyon Road around 10 p.m. According to KTLA, one of the cars was a white sedan that suffered heavy front-end damage. The other, a black SUV, was also damaged significantly at the front end.
Authorities pronounced one victim dead on the scene with the other two victims transported to the hospital with injuries not threatening their lives. Video footage from the accident showed the vehicles' disastrous state in the wake of the crash. Despite the efforts to improve this notorious stretch of highway for safety, which includes new signage and increased patrols, tragedies have continued to unravel here, as reported by KTLA, where at least 59 people have perished since 2010.
The roadway was eventually reopened just before 9 a.m. on Friday, as detailed by CBS Los Angeles. The authorities are still investigating the collision's cause, and further details are pending.
