Get ready to tap the brakes if you're cruising through Genesee County this July. The Michigan Department of Transportation is pouring a solid $2.3 million into resurfacing old M-57, extending a near 10-mile stretch from M-54 to M-15. According to Mid Michigan Now, the project kicks off July 15 and should wrap up by the curtain fall of September. Drivers should anticipate single-lane closures throughout the day, guided by flagging operations, while the state lays down fresh hot-mix asphalt.
But it's not all traffic jams and orange barrels. This makeover is touted to bolster roadway safety, ensure smoother journeys, and stretch the lifetime of the pavement. We're also looking at an economic lane-change—this project promises to support about 28 jobs directly and indirectly, according to Mid Michigan Now. Motorists from Clio to Otisville, weekly commuters, or road-trippers—everyone's expected to taste the benefits of improved operations and a more forgiving road surface.
So, what's the plan, you ask? MDOT maps out a clear route: cold milling to scrape off the worn top, followed by laying down the fresh layer, and finishing with those crucial pavement markings. As per the details shared on Michigan Government's official site, the targeted span contributes a vital vein for local and through traffic spanning parts of Genesee County, affecting close-knit communities like Clio and Otisville.
