Fans of the legendary rock band Heart will have to wait a bit longer to see the group perform live, as the band has postponed the remainder of their 2024 Royal Flush Tour due to a serious health diagnosis affecting lead singer Ann Wilson. The Independent reported that the 74-year-old vocalist recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth and is now facing a course of preventive chemotherapy on the advice of her doctors.
While Wilson assured fans that she's feeling great following the successful operation, the recovery and treatment process demands her to step away from the stage for the rest of the year, originally scheduled to feature special guest Cheap Trick and performances in major cities across the U.S. and Canada; the tour's momentum now stunted by this unforeseen medical hiatus. In her statement obtained by KTNV, Wilson expressed her reluctance and disappointment at having to postpone the shows, assuring ticket holders that "I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025," also indicating that the details of the tour's rescheduling will be shared once solidified.
The consternation of fans upon hearing this news is palpable, especially with Heart being a staple of rock music since the 70s and with the Wilson sisters having recently received a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2023. Since the cancellation includes over 50 shows, Heart has not confirmed whether bands like Def Leppard and Journey, who were slated to join select performances, will be part of the rescheduled 2025 lineup, leaving concert-goers and fellow musicians alike, hanging in a somber note of anticipation.
Tickets for the original 2024 dates remain valid for the rescheduled event though specifics remain under wraps at this juncture and likewise, the consortium of cities that were to host Heart and their electrifying classics like "Barracuda," "Crazy on You," and "Alone," now must reorient their event calendars, each venue smudging out Heart's name for the time being as they await the band's promised return to the stage. Ann Wilson's personal plea to her followers on Instagram—"This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing"—echoes the sentiment that this postponement is but an interlude in Heart's storied musical journey, which the fans eagerly wish to resume with her on the mend.
