In a spiraling incident through Hesperia's main drags, Juan Carrera Suarez—a 33-year-old local—is now facing a litany of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, after leading the authorities on a high-speed chase. On the afternoon of July 9, Suarez ignored orders from Hesperia Police Department deputies to exit his vehicle outside a location on the 15700 block of Main Street, instead accelerating into a deputy's patrol car and launching an approximately 10-mile pursuit that culminated in his arrest, as reported by the Hesperia Police Department.
The Hesperia PD officers were originally responding to calls about an individual brandishing a weapon in the parking lot. When they arrived, a juvenile was seen entering the passenger side of Suarez's car. The escalation that followed left a deputy's vehicle damaged, though, fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to an announcement posted by the Hesperia Police Department, the chaos ended with Suarez—and the accompanying teenager, who was later released to his parents—being detained, both exhibiting signs of intoxication. It turns out, the threat wasn’t as it seemed; the weapon was an airsoft gun.
With a judicial process looming over the horizon for Suarez, the Hesperia Police Department encourages anyone with further information on the incident to come forward. Tips can be relayed to the department directly or anonymously through the We-Tip Hotline.
