County offices and facilities will lock their doors this Independence Day. According to an announcement on the Hillsborough County's official website, the closures are set for Thursday, July 4, as the nation dons its stars and stripes to celebrate. The offices will not be a ghost town for long and they’re scheduled to reopen the following day, Friday.
Hillsborough County's administrative offices, all branches of the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative, and trash pickup services will be suspended for the July 4th holiday. This means there will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or yard waste in unincorporated areas such as Tampa Palms, Hunter's Green, and New Tampa on Thursday. Regular services will resume on the next scheduled collection day after the holiday, according to Hillsborough County's announcement.
Closure signs will also hang at the Southeast County Landfill, and Northwest and South County transfer stations, on July 4. Ditto for the Resource Recovery Facility, community collection centers, and yard waste processing facilities. For those in need of customer service, the Hillsborough County’s Customer Service Center at (813) 272-5900 will also take a breather.
Essential services aren’t completely off the grid. Despite shuttered doors, the public utilities customer service centers will still take emergency calls via (813) 744-5635 regarding county water and wastewater service. Other closed venues include the Development Services and the Entrepreneur Collaborative Center.
