Houston has been rocked by a surrogacy scandal as Dominique Side, owner of Surrogacy Escrow Account Management LLC (SEAM), faces severe allegations of diverting millions intended for surrogacy payments into her rap career and high-end lifestyle, a temporary injunction has frozen the company's assets amid ongoing investigations. Side's main business partner, Anthony Hall, was present in court on Wednesday without legal representation, claiming his assets were frozen that he can't even order an Uber, as reported by Click2Houston.
During Hall's unaccompanied appearance before the judge, he maintained his victim status and expressed ignorance about the origin of the money despite benefiting from it, he also signaled willingness to aid the investigation; attorneys plan to convert assets under his name into victim repayments, according to Marianne Robak, an attorney in the case, who told Click2Houston, “Our hope at the end of this is to get a final judgment for our client’s claims, for breach of contract, for fraudulent transfer, and for unjust enrichment, and put those funds in what’s called a construct of trust for the benefit of the creditors, which would be the intended parents.”
Side was noticeably absent from proceedings, despite reports of her communicating with Hall just two days prior, a turn of events which Robak suggested represents a ray of hope for the recovery of the misappropriated funds: "Once those are put into a constructive trust by the court, then we will work towards recovery, towards disbursing those funds to the intended parents and back into their accounts," she explained in her statement obtained by Click2Houston.
Further complicating the issue, a forensic analysis revealed more than $10 million of escrow money had been funneled to various businesses, Side, and business partners, with records showing that $6.2 million was transferred to Vgn Bae Music Group, a music studio previously associated with Side but subsequently run by Hall, now known as 2160 Records and 7800 Amelia Studios. Side allegedly reported herself to the FBI, though this claim remains unverified according to a statement obtained by FOX 26 Houston.
The case has drawn the attention of numerous families globally, with 23 additional families from the United States, one from France, and another from Italy joining the lawsuit, their combined claims exceeding $1 million; the FBI continues to reach out to potential victims or those with relevant information regarding SEAM, inviting them to fill out a form available on their website, as indicated by FOX 26 Houston.
