Wilmington residents were able to breath a collective sigh of relief on the evening of July 6, when a structure fire at a one-story home was swiftly managed by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The incident, which occurred at 24817 S Baypoint Avenue, began with a blaze that claimed the attached three-car garage of the residence. Flames threatened to spread to the attic, but thankfully, it was later confirmed to be only smoke that had made its way there.
The LAFD alert initially issued at 07:21 PM described the frightening scene with firefighters converging on the fiery garage. They had to quickly and efficiently engage to prevent any further escalation. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department's incident report, the response team consisted of "FS 38; Batt 6; South Bureau; Council District 15; BC13 BC6 E112 E238 E285 E36 E49 E85 RA112 RA36 RA38 T38 T85."
A follow-up statement, published a short while later, detailed the success of the firefighting efforts. "First arriving 32 LAFD Firefighters took just 23 minutes to access and fully extinguish flames that were confined to the attached three-car garage," according to the LAFDA knockdown report. Remarkably, this was achieved with no reports of injuries, and the integrity of the majority of the 1,817 square-foot house was maintained intact.
As of the last update, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Community members have been praised for their alertness and timely reporting which permitted firefighters to swiftly arrive and take control over the situation. The coordinated efforts of the LAFD units, including Engine companies E112, E238, E285, E36, E49, E85, and Rescue Ambulances RA112, RA36, RA38, along with Truck companies T38, and T85 were crucial in the favorable resolution of this potentially destructive fire incident.
