For those looking to enjoy some outdoor sports or simply lounge on the grass at your favorite community spots, heads up: several lakefront parks will be off-limits early next week. A nematode treatment is being applied to the Bermuda grass at different ballfields and multipurpose fields to address infestations that, unchecked, could do a number on the verdant expanses we take for granted, according to Lake County, Florida.
The county dispatch says North Lake Regional Park, East Lake Sports and Community Complex, Minneola Athletic Complex, and P.E.A.R. Park Gateway are all set for partial closures starting this Monday, July 8, and spilling over into Tuesday, July 9, it seems like a lot to handle but don't worry, the county's got it taped—literally. The treated areas will be cordoned off with caution tape, and the public must keep their distance, a full 30 feet to be exact, for 24 hours during and after the treatments, according to a public notice by Lake County Offices.
Here's the drill-down on the schedule: North Lake Regional Park (that's at 40730 Roger Giles Rd, Umatilla), East Lake Sports and Community Complex (find that at 24809 Wallick Rd, Sorrento), and Minneola Athletic Complex (situated at 13930 Education Ave, Minneola) are on the docket for Monday. Then on Tuesday, they'll finish up with the multipurpose fields at North Lake and Minneola, plus the ball fields over at P.E.A.R. Park Gateway, located at 26701 U.S. Highway 27, Leesburg.
Impatient to get back on the field? Hang tight; the county assures that all areas will be reopened as soon as they're safe which means the tape comes down, and the games are back on. In the meantime, if you're itching for more info—or maybe to reschedule that pick-up game—you can ring up the Lake County Office of Parks & Trails at 352-253-4950 because they're the ones with all the answers when it comes to these sorts of things.
