
The Los Angeles Police Department is currently seeking the public's assistance to locate a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Lincoln Heights. The incident, which involved a 49-year-old male motorist, occurred on May 18 at around 7:35 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue 20 and North Broadway. According to a statement from the LAPD, the motorcyclist was heading northbound on Avenue 20 when a white Ford pickup truck ran through a red light and caused the victim to lay down his motorcycle in an effort to avoid a collision.
Running the red light, the Ford pickup truck's identity remains unknown after fleeing the scene immediately after the incident. The victim, in an attempt to avoid the crash, collided with the roadway and slid under a box truck, which subsequently ran over him. Responding to the emergency, the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rendered life-saving measures and transported the injured man to a local hospital, where, despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries as per CBS News.
The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a white Ford pickup truck, distinctive with a rear metal utility rack. Photographs of the suspect's truck have been released by the officers in the hopes that members of the community could assist in identifying the driver.
The city has announced a standing reward, amounting to $50,000, for any information that leads to the suspect's identification, arrest, and conviction under the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund created by the City Council in 2015.
