A 59-year-old bicyclist, identified as David Brooks, is fighting for his life after a harrowing incident in east Las Vegas that saw him being struck by two vehicles late Tuesday evening. This grim sequence unfolded at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard anf Mt. Rushmore Parkway. According to KTNV, Brooks was initially riding against traffic, heading north in southbound lanes, before he was clipped by a Dodge Dakota and then struck again by a Chrysler 300C Touring.

As reported, the bicyclist attempted to navigate across the raised center median which resulted in his path intersecting with that of an oncoming Dodge Dakota; the impact sent him sprawling into the opposing traffic lane, and before respite could be found another collision ensued, this time with the Chrysler 300C Touring whose driver could not avoid the unexpected obstacle in the southbound lane. The driver of the Dodge Dakota, 44-year-old Anthony Tate, displayed signs of impairment at the scene, leading to his arrest for DUI and subsequent booking into the Clark County Detention Center, according to FOX5 Vegas.

Following the incident, Brooks was swiftly transported to Sunrise Hospital's Trauma Unit where he remains in critical condition. While the driver of the Chrysler 300C was reported to not have shown any signs of impairment and has not been cited, this case remains under the attention of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section. Pursuant to the investigations, Tate is scheduled to appear before the court on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Nellis Boulevard after which it was shut down for four hours has been reopened.
