Brace yourselves, Las Vegas drivers – major roadwork is about to snarl up Rainbow Boulevard. Starting this Wednesday, July 31, lanes will shrink to just one in each direction on the stretch from US-95 to Smoke Ranch Road. This isn't a fleeting inconvenience; the restrictions are set to last nine whole weeks until October 4, per reports from KTNV.
Why the squeeze on Rainbow Boulevard? The city is rolling out a series of improvements, including fixing up the utilities and traffic signals, plus milling and paving the road. Although the milling and paving will consume just about two weeks of the project, the lane restrictions are a 24/7 affair, as outlined in a public notice.
Morning to evening commuters take note: the construction crews will be active from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. But if you think evenings or weekends offer a reprieve from the bottleneck, think again. Those lanes will stay restricted round the clock until the work's done.
If you're looking to bypass the whole mess, city officials suggest using Buffalo Drive or Torrey Pines Drive as alternate routes. The groundwork laid so far has included updates to sidewalks, making them more accessible and in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This nod to inclusivity was confirmed by both KTNV and public statements released by the city. For those curious, or frustrated, about the project, the city has opened a line for inquiries at (702) 353-4294.
Funding for this roadwork amounts to a cool $2 million, a tab picked up by the Federal Highway Administration, with a little help from Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax funds. Las Vegas Paving has been named the contractor in charge, whilst the City of Las Vegas oversees the entire operation.
