League City has upped its scenic game, elevating from a Silver rank to the coveted Platinum status within the Scenic City Program. For the uninitiated, this prestigious acknowledgment comes from Scenic Texas, a non-profit organization devoted to celebrating municipalities that set high standards for their scenic roadways and public spaces.
The climb to Platinum is no small feat. Cities applying to the program must buckled down for a meticulous evaluation process, which grades items such as the protection of trees, both native and established, and the presence of landscaped medians and accessible sidewalks. According to a recent announcement on League City's official website, these efforts, among others, have been acknowledged and celebrated through this year's certification. It provides access to a diagnostic tool that allows the city to compare its standards on key infrastructural aspects like landscaping, tree planting, and the effectiveness of its sign ordinances against other Texan cities. The program, which includes four certification levels – Recognized, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
The criteria for the Platinum status are comprehensive. They extend beyond greenery to include citywide sign ordinances, lighting standards tailored for streetscapes, and the integration of landscaping into parking lots. In addition, initiatives focused on maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces by combating litter and graffiti also play a crucial role in the evaluation.
