Over 1,500 certified firefighters from across the southern states are set to demonstrate their competitive edge, not in battling blazes but in showcasing athletic prowess at the Texas Firefighters Summer Games in Lewisville, scheduled for July 21-26, as announced by the City of Lewisville, Texas.
This year's games mark a return to familiar territory, with Lewisville previously hosting in 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2012, and the participants gearing up for a fiery competition across 23 events—including but not limited to powerlifting, golf, and the increasingly popular pickleball—the games promise a display of camaraderie and skill, with events taking place at various venues around Lewisville, spectators are welcomed and encouraged to root for their local heroes.
The week-long affair kicks off at the Hilton Garden Inn Lewisville, where the opening ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a showcase of strength in the powerlifting competition, the schedule also includes a mix of activities ranging from sand volleyball to basketball, with archery and fishing ensuring there's something for everyone.
While the Summer Games function as a competitive arena for these emergency responders, the true essence lies in the collective spirit of the firefighter community, as they take a break from their lifesaving day jobs to engage in a friendly but fierce clash of departments, the interesting mix of events throughout the week, such as 'Scotch Doubles' in bowling and 'Darts Blind Draw', serve to not only test the physical finesse of these firefighters but also their strategic minds.
