Last night in Long Beach, an occurrence that began with an unconscious man in a car unfolded into a scene where police were forced to deploy a less-lethal round and a K9 unit. The Long Beach Police Department reports that on July 11, 2024, at around 6:33 p.m., they were called to the 1400 block of Lemon Avenue to find a male adult with a gun visible on his lap.
The LBPD attempted to engage the man, later identified as 41-year-old Anthony Michael Rosado from Los Angeles County, in a manner meant to de-escalate the potentially dangerous situation. After Rosado failed to comply with orders to leave the vehicle, a 40mm less-lethal round, which did not achieve its intended outcome, was utilized by the officers. Following this, a K9 unit was brought into the fray, which ultimately led to Rosado's arrest. You can get a glimpse of the incident's aftermath and the ongoing investigation details through the LBPD's official press release.
Rosado sustained injuries to his upper and lower body, considered non-life-threatening, and was then transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being processed for booking. According to the LBPD, he faces charges of being a prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, operating a vehicle while under the influence, and grand theft auto. His bail has been set at $200,000.
The LBPD has not provided further details on the specific circumstances leading up to the incident, other than stating the arrest and charges that were levied against Rosado. The local community, having witnessed a vehicular slumber that escalated to an arrest, is presented with yet another tableau of the thin line police walk between restraint and force. As the LBPD continues with its probe into the matter, more updates are anticipated to be made public in due course.
