A fire broke out in a commercial building complex in Norwalk, Los Angeles County, on Monday afternoon where firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department battled against the blaze. According to KTLA, the fire department was called to the scene just after 5 p.m. in the 14600 block of Carmenita Road. The conflagration caused heavy smoke and flames to erupt from the rear section of the warehouse complex, prompting firefighters to strategically take a defensive stance to prevent further spread to the business offices located at the front of the building.

The situation required ladder trucks to quickly attempt to control the blaze. Reporting from Sky5, KTLA’s Gil Leyvas noted that at least two warehouses have been destroyed. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. As fire crews continued their work, Carmenita Road was expected to be closed off to allow to easily put out the remaining fire and initiate cleanup processes.

Simultaneously, ABC7 reported that the flames engulfing the Norwalk building sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky, visible from the 5 Freeway. Although the fire broke through the warehouse roof, there were no injuries immediately reported. The quick response of the firefighters and their efforts to assert control over the fire prevented what could have easily turned into a more catastrophic event.
