
Early this morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Valley Village, successfully dousing the flames that had engulfed a residential shed and part of a one-story home. According to a press release by the LAFD, the incident was reported at 12:18 AM at 4912 N Beeman Avenue.
First responders arrived on the scene following an automatic fire alarm notification. They found the attached shed well involved with fire, which had spread into the living space of the residence. While fighting the fire, the team managed a rescue operation, pulling an elderly man from the smoky embrace of the structure. The individual suffered burns to his head and was immediately attended to with medical care on-site.
The fire was officially reported out by 12:46 AM. The quick action of the first arriving firefighters limited the blaze and potentially saved lives. "The man, who sustained burns to his head, was provided on-site medical care, before being transported to an area hospital in fair condition by LAFD Paramedics," reported the LAFD's statement after the incident. They subsequently discovered the man's pet dog which sadly, did not survive the fire, was found deceased within the damaged areas of the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by authorities. The affected property, a 2,700 square food home, was searched thoroughly after the extinguishment, ensuring that there were no more occupants in danger. No other injuries have been reported following the incident, and firefighters continue to assess the damage and investigate the source of the flames."
