The Los Angeles Police Department has apprehended a suspect on charges of animal cruelty following tips provided by citizens who witnessed a dog being abused in a video circulated on social media. The incident, captured in the harrowing footage, shows a dog being kicked and thrown down a staircase by a male individual. The LAPD's Rampart detectives were called to the 4000 block of Oakwood Avenue on July 7, after the video prompted a public outcry for intervention.
Upon arrival, the officers located and detained 27-year-old Joeboury Coleman in an alley behind the scene of the alleged abuse. The swift response by the Rampart Patrol Officers led to the discovery of the harmed canine inside Coleman’s apartment. According to the LAPD's newsroom, the dog is a seven-month-old female who suffered a broken hind leg consistent with a traumatic fall and was also found to be poorly nourished.
Coleman has been identified and booked under booking number 6842830 on a charge of 597(a) PC – Animal Cruelty, held at currently a $0 bail. The injured dog is now in the care of a local animal shelter, where she is receiving the necessary treatment, which may include surgery to mend the broken hind leg. Authorities urge that any further details regarding the case should be directed to the LAPD’s Rampart Division.
Rampart Burglary Theft Detectives are actively seeking any additional information, asking individuals to reach out to them directly at 213-484-3490, or through various anonymous tip lines detailed in the LAPD statement.
