A West Michigan woman is facing substantial prison time after entering a plea of no contest to charges of child abuse. Tara Treesh, a 36-year-old resident of Ludington, could be sentenced to anywhere between 20 months and 10 years following her plea in a case involving serious harm to her 2-year-old son.
Treesh was arraigned with several charges in November 2022, which, aside from second-degree child abuse, included maintaining a drug house and possession of methamphetamine. In a distressing event recounted by both the Audacy and the Michigan Department of Attorney General, the child was taken to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital in an unresponsive condition in December 2021. Treesh originally claimed that the boy might have fallen from his crib. Despite her initial claim, a pediatric specialist expressed the injuries were more severe than those from such a fall would be consistent with.
Attorney General Dana Nessel addressed the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that "Every child deserves to grow up in a loving, caring household, free from fear of abuse and trauma." Nessel praised the timely medical attention and legal response to the incident, ensuring the young boy is now in a safer environment, as per Audacy. She expressed her aspiration for the child's recovery and future well-being.
After the legal proceedings, Treesh relinquished her parental rights. The child, whose identity remains protected, has embarked on the arduous journey of installing his life onto a new, safer path. Treesh is scheduled for sentencing on September 24th in what promises to be a sobering conclusion to a harrowing case of child abuse that was unveiled by Judge Susan Sniegowski in the 51st Circuit Court in Mason County, according to details provided by the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
