In what comes as a troubling update from the UCLA campus, a 41-year-old man has been taken into custody linked to the sexual assault of a UCLA student. The assault reportedly took place at the Saxon Residential Suites in the 300 block of De Neve Drive where the victim was sexually assaulted in her bed at about 2:40 a.m. on Friday, according to ABC7. Authorities have identified the suspect as Jeffery Brewer.
Increased patrolling was observed on campus following the incident, with students expressing their dismay and concern for security measures in place. "A lot of Bruins are upset at the university, like, they say they're here to protect us, but where's the protection?" Chantal de la Cruz, a resident of the UCLA dorms, conveyed to NBC Los Angeles. The suspected intruder seemed to have entered through a window, a point of vulnerability as many students, in an attempt to alleviate the absence of air conditioning, leave their windows open.
Brewer now faces charges that include burglary, forcible sexual penetration, false imprisonment, and assault with intent to commit a felony, as per NBC Los Angeles.
