A United Airlines flight en route from Houston to Boston was forced to divert on Sunday due to an unspecified medical issue faced by a passenger, resulting in a scene of discomfort and illness that impacted both passengers and crew. The flight, UA2477, landed at Washington Dulles International Airport, as per the company's statement – an incident that sparked not only concern but a thorough cleaning protocol.

According to a Houston Chronicle report, the airline did not provide details on the medical issue that triggered the diversion. Despite the terse nature of the incident, it is known that the aircraft was necessitated to receive a deep clean before it resumed its journey, "The flight had 155 passengers and six crew members. However, neither the passengers nor crew needed medical assistance when the plane landed in Virginia," United officials confirmed.

The situation on board was described as "really bad," amidst requests for masks and instances of vomiting among the crew, as captured in a radio traffic recording posted by flight tracking company RadarBox and reported by USA Today. "It's quite bad back there. It's still really bad. The crew is vomiting and passengers all around are asking for masks, etc." said a crew member during the incident, indicating the severity of the medical emergency.

While the exact nature of the episode was not divulged by United Airlines, Business Insider cited a travel blog that claimed that the incident involved a passenger's burst colostomy bag. The flight, with a skip in its step, continued after a six-hour delay from Washington to Boston, impacting United's flight schedule including the aircraft's subsequent flight back to Houston, which experienced a near five-hour delay.

This event mirrors other recent situations where flights have been disrupted due to health-related incidents. Last month, as stated by United, another flight was deep-cleaned after passengers exhibited symptoms such as vomiting.
