After decades of silence, the Michigan State Police are revisiting a missing person case that has long remained unsolved. Cassandra Durham, who was a 19-year-old at the time of her disappearance in 1987, has become more than just a name in an old file with the case's reopening. According to CBS News Detroit, Durham disappeared following a road trip she took with her boyfriend from Baltimore to Northern Michigan. They were to eventually visit his family in Roscommon.
The details pieced together from the past reveal that the couple was driving a 1980 Honda Civic station wagon, which is believed to have broken down near Detroit. Eventually, Durham's boyfriend is said to have purchased a new vehicle, an Oldsmobile Cutlass. As reported by 9&10 News, when he returned to Maryland, Durham was not with him. Her absence was contested by her father, who claims that his daughter never made it back home.
The investigation calls for attention to the physical descriptions of Durham to hopefully trigger memories that could lead to new information. CBS News Detroit describes her as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 110 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes—attributes that may still spark recognition even after years have passed. Additionally, she was known to have two distinct tattoos in the area of her hip/thigh – one being her boyfriend's initials "EB," the other linked to her college sorority.
Authorities are now actively seeking anyone who might have information to come forward. Sergeant Brett Nichols of the Michigan State Police, mentioned by both UpNorthLive and CBS News Detroit, can be reached at 989-422-5103 or via email at [email protected].
