
A Montebello man, Juan Carlos Gutierrez known as "Johnny G", was convicted of distributing the synthetic opioid fentanyl, leading to a fatal overdose at a Long Beach drug rehabilitation clinic, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California. A 34-year-old man receiving treatment at the facility overdosed on December 10, 2021, after Gutierrez sold the drug to an intermediary, who then covertly delivered it to the victim.
The chain of events on that December evening unfolded when Jayleen Feusier, 36, agreed to secure the drug for the victim, in exchange for $60, she acquired the fentanyl from Gutierrez, after which she used an Uber delivery service to send the substance concealed in a small box paired with a black t-shirt, to the facility where the substance that Feusier sent the link to the victim to track the incoming delivery, later that same evening, the man's body was found surrounded by the packaging and paraphernalia that was used to transport the drug inside the rehabilitation center's living room.
As a result of the trial, Gutierrez faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment, the sentence will be decided on October 15 as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The case was intensively investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Long Beach Police Department, with the victim's death conclusively determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office as a fentanyl overdose.
