The Metropolitan Police Department is currently seeking assistance from the public to locate the suspects involved in a recent vehicle theft in Southeast Washington D.C. According to a press release from MPD, the incident unfolded on Sunday, June 30, 2024, when the victim discovered their vehicle missing from its parking spot on the 2500 block of Savannah Street, Southeast at approximately 6:08 p.m.

Following an investigation, MPD detectives discovered that two individuals had unlawfully entered and stolen the vehicle swiftly. While the stolen vehicle has since been located, the search for the suspects continues. Detectives found that, before recovery, the stolen car was used in two separate armed carjackings. Aided by a fleeting concern for community safety, the MPD shared details of these incidents in hopes that the public could provide any relevant information.

The first armed carjacking occurred a few days later, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, around 12:49 a.m. on the 1900 block of Calvert Street, Northwest, while the second incident took place on the following day, July 3, 2024, at around 2:45 a.m. in the 2200 block of 8th Street, Northwest. Each event resulted in a report being filed, with the respective case numbers, CCN: 24100826 and CCN: 24101404, being cited for these carjackings.

The MPD has not released suspect descriptions as of now but urges anyone with any information about these crimes to come forward. The MPD asks that any tips, which may also be submitted anonymously, be directed to their department as they work to close this case.
