MPD Seeks Public's Help to Identify Suspect in Daylight Firework Assault in Northwest D.C.Source: Metropolitan Police Department

The search is ongoing for a suspect involved in a recent aggravated assault in Northwest Washington, D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department has released a statement appealing to the public for any information that could help to promptly identify the individual responsible for a brazen daylight attack.

Authorities report that on Sunday, June 30 at around 3:13 p.m., an unidentified suspect set off a firework directly at another person. This incident occurred in the 1500 block of 9th Street, Northwest, an area known to be frequented by locals and visitors alike. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered injuries classified as non-life-threatening but necessitating medical attention; they were subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect managed to quickly flee the scene before police arrived.

According to the official statement released by the MPD, the attack appears unprovoked, and the utilization of fireworks as a weapon in such a manner presents a concerning use of what are generally considered celebratory devices.

The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information about the suspect or the assault to come forward. "Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are asking for the community's assistance in identifying a suspect in an aggravated assault," the MPD conveyed in their request to the public.  Tips can be provided anonymously, and the MPD has communicated that there are lines open for such tips to be safely shared.
