As the summer sun beats down on San Antonio, locals and visitors alike gather at Woodlawn Lake Park to celebrate the Fourth of July. With an array of activities that starts at 11 a.m. and closes with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m., the San Antonio Parks Foundation, in conjunction with the City of San Antonio, has ensured that this day is packed with entertainment for families and individuals of all ages. According to KENS5, attendees can indulge in local barbecue, participate in carnival games, and enjoy performances throughout the day.
The event space at Woodlawn Lake Park is dotted with food trucks serving classic American fare such as BBQ, hot dogs, and the event staple, chicken-on-a-stick. For those seeking to cool down, raspas and aguas frescas are also available amidst the hustle of people enjoying activities like bull riding and Zumba classes. Texas Public Radio reports a robust lineup of musicians set to perform, featuring artist such as the U.S. Air Force Band of the West and DJ Vegas.
Adding a unique touch to this year's celebration, the U.S. Postal Service is set to dedicate new flag-themed stamps at 6:15 p.m., as announced by Postmaster Robert D. Carr, Jr., "The "four stamps depict Old Glory flying at different times of the day. While the shapes and colors of the clouds change, the sun is always shining on the flag. The flags, shown from a low-angle perspective, draw attention upward, toward the magic of the changing sky," the USPS describes in a statement obtained by Texas Public Radio.
The highlight of the evening, the H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza, promises to cap off the festive activities with a spectacular 12-minute display beginning at 9 p.m. The fireworks are set to burst above the lake, choreographed to synchronized music, amplifying the celebration's grandeur.
