In a move to streamline construction site inspections and reduce delays, New Braunfels officials are now requiring that printed copies of approved construction drawings and documents be present at all commercial or residential project sites. According to a recent bulletin from the Building Safety Division, it's essential for these materials to bear the "Reviewed for Code Compliance" stamp and be readily available for review by inspectors, which is a provision based on Section 107.3.1 of the 2021 International Building Code and Section R106.3.1 of the 2021 International Residential Code.
The document stipulates that when a building official grants a permit the construction documents shall be approved as “Reviewed for Code Compliance,” and one set retained by the building official and the other must be on-site; this guideline is designed to provide better customer service and minimize inspection delays which are sometimes a result of poor internet connectivity on job sites, hence it’s not just about ticking off a checklist, it's about maintaining a smooth workflow for everyone involved. Contractors and builders are advised to store these documents where they can easily be found by inspectors, such as at a structure's entrance or in the first room of a building, and in residential homes, locations could include the foyer or garage.
To support compliance, the New Braunfels Building Safety Division has made it known that it stands ready to assist and answer any queries regarding this new stipulation, you can reach the division by calling 830-221-4041 and selecting Option 1.
