A fatal rollover crash that happened Wednesday afternoon in Pacoima claimed the life of one individual and left another injured. The incident occurred on the 118 freeway when a vehicle lost control, overturned, and landed on a street below, as reported by the CBS News Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the accident near the intersection of North Haddon Avenue and Fielding Street, close to Paxton Park after the vehicle came to rest in the 10900 block of North Haddon Avenue around 4:40 p.m.
According to the KTLA, one victim was ejected from the vehicle and was then transported to the hospital in unknown condition. Efforts to rapidly extract the other victim from the mangled wreckage ensued, but the individual was pronounced dead at the site. The scene was captured by aerial footage and documented through ground video, displaying the gravity of the crash.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending further investigation. Eyewitness accounts and emergency response videos added a grim reality to the statistical narrative often told in the aftermath of vehicle accidents. The Los Angeles Fire Department's alert confirmed the tragic outcome, noting, "Firefighters extricated the trapped patient, but sadly they were deceased at the scene."
The cause of the crash is still under active investigation, and no statements have been made regarding potential factors such as alcohol or drug use. "Firefighters are on scene of a vehicle rollover that originated on the 118 Freeway and came to rest below at the intersection of Haddon and Fielding," stated Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department in their initial alert. Community members have been urged to avoid the area as to not impede traffic flow and investigation processes.
