
A fire erupted in Boyle Heights early Wednesday morning leaving one person dead, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). According to a KTLA report, the blaze was reported at approximately 1:18 a.m. at a location on 121 North Mathews Street.
The LAFD deployed 34 firefighters to tackle the heavy smoke and flames emanating from the structure, a boarded-up, single-family home. They managed to gain entry and deploy hose lines to combat the interior fire, "Crews quickly made access and deployed hose lines inside the building," according to the LAFD incident alert. It took the firefighters about 24 minutes to extinguish the flames fully.
Following the extinguishment of the fire, a search within the house uncovered one deceased individual. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin, and an investigation into the cause of death is underway by the L.A. County Medical Examiner. Arson investigators have also been called in to determine what sparked the fire. Official updates and details regarding this incident have not been further elaborated upon.
