Tragedy struck in the Westover Division as detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit began investigating a shooting that left one person dead and three others injured. The violent episode unfolded on the 1500 block of Parker Drive late Yesterday evening, where according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon around 9:00 p.m.
On arrival, law enforcement found two victims with gunshot wounds, both were rushed to nearby hospitals and despite the efforts of medical personnel, one victim was pronounced deceased while the second sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening, meanwhile, two other individuals in a turn of self-preservation transported themselves to medical facilities, with one facing less serious injuries and the other grappling with conditions flagged as life-threatening.
The ongoing investigation has seen Homicide Unit detectives piece together the circumstances of the incident, with the Crime Scene Search team collecting physical evidence in their wake. Assistance came from various branches within the force, including CMPd's Operations Command, Victim Services, and the Charlotte Fire Department, who have all had roles to play in the wake of the violence.
