The Sarasota Police Department rushed to the scene after reports of shooting, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m. along 23rd Street. According to FOX 13 News, the individual who fell victim to the gunfire was transported to the hospital and is expected to make a recovery, as of now no arrests have been made as detectives continue to piece together the events that unfolded.

The incident, which shook residents, prompted law enforcement to quickly address public concern, declaring the violence an isolated occurrence – sparking conversations on the prevalence of gun violence and its sporadic nature that no neighborhood seems truly insulated from. “This is an isolated incident, and the public is not believed to be in danger,” Sarasota police stated in a news release obtained by WFLA, seeking to quell any widespread alarm among the community members who might otherwise feel the ripples of fear from such a nearby act of violence.
