Tuesday was a slam dunk for the kids at the Joe R. Lee Boys & Girls Club, who received a surprise that is sure to energize their summer. Orlando Magic's Anthony Black, alongside Ticketmaster, dribbled in with scholarships for the young hoops hopefuls to attend the Magic basketball camp starting July 8. The delight didn't stop there – each attendee left the Kia Center practice court clutching swag bags bursting with gear, including a Dri-FIT shirt, shoes, and, of course, the obligatory shorts and a Magic basketball, as reported by WFTV.
Black, who hails from humble camp beginnings himself, recognizes the importance of such experiences in fostering young talent. On top of camp scholarships, the Magic Guard helped the kids brush up on their skills with drills that focused on everything from defense to rim-finishing. Black's dedication to inspiring the next generation is palpable. "It's really important to me," Black said, as per NBA. recalling the effects of his basketball journey with an evident gleam in his eye.
In a move that mirrors a neatly executed pick and roll, Ticketmaster is taking the pass from the Magic to offer 50 scholarships to various community groups. According to Clay Luter, Ticketmaster EVP and Co-Head of Sports, this move is part of a wider effort to champion youth engagement in physical activities and deepen community ties. "We have offices across the country, but we always want to be as local as we can", Luter said, according to NBA, highlighting the partnership's focus on meaningful, community-centric events.
