A serious incident occurred late Friday night in the southwest Las Vegas valley, leaving a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash, where one driver was suspected of DUI. 8 News Now reported the crash involved a Lexus GS350 and a Chevrolet Malibu at the intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the collision happened at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Officials say, the Lexus was traveling southbound on Decatur Boulevard approaching the intersection with a green light. Meanwhile, Jessica Carreon, age 35, was in her Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a red turn light northbound on Decatur, and a pedestrian was on the sidewalk. "Police say the driver of the Malibu, 35-year-old Jessica Carreon drove through the red light into the intersection, right in the way of the speeding Lexus, which slammed into the Malibu," stated KTNV. This action caused the Malibu to hit the pedestrian on the sidewalk.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was immediately taken to University Medical Center's trauma center to be treated for the critical injuries sustained in the mishap. Carreon suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to UMC. At the hospital, authorities determined that she exhibited signs of impairment and subsequently arrested her for DUI. Carreon is expected to appear in court for the mentioned charges.

The driver of the Lexus, however, was found to be not impaired and cooperated with the officers. "The driver of the Lexus was not impaired and cooperated with the investigation," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed on KTNV. The area around Decatur and Tropicana was likely closed off as the scene was being investigated, with police tape marking the territory of this regrettable event.
