The City of Philadelphia recently celebrated Eastwick Community Day 2024, an event that brought together residents and a variety of agencies to discuss pressing issues like flood mitigation and environmental justice. On Saturday, June 29, the Eastwick Regional Playground was transformed into a hub for community engagement, where local families enjoyed outdoor activities and learned about valuable resources available to them.
As part of the Eastwick: From Recovery to Resilience initiative, the Office of Sustainability has been holding meetings to equip locals with information on how to handle flooding—a persistent stressor for the neighborhood. Instead of the regular virtual town hall, Eastwick Community Day provided a more interactive and fun-filled forum for these conversations. According to the City of Philadelphia's announcement, representatives from various agencies and community organizations were on hand to speak with residents about the resources and support at their disposal.
Over twenty groups participated in the event, demonstrating the collaborative spirit of Eastwick Community Day, as per the City of Philadelphia. Among those in attendance were the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMAl), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health—all offering their expertise and services to the residents of Eastwick.
