Polish Hill is set for a short burst of construction aimed at making the streets safer for those on foot. Starting Thursday, July 25th, the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) will begin implementing several pedestrian crossing upgrades at the intersection of Herron and Melwood Avenue, as detailed by an official release.
Mayor Ed Gainey expressed enthusiasm about the project, saying, "I am thrilled to announce the pedestrian crossing improvements at Herron Ave. and Melwood Ave. These upgrades advance our vision of a safe, welcoming, and thriving Pittsburgh, while bringing us closer to our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities. Our commitment to safe streets for all remains strong," as reported by an official bulletin from the City of Pittsburgh.
The work is expected to be swift, taking roughly two days, with construction workers onsite directing traffic to minimize disruptions. Speed table construction will occur in phases, allowing one side of the street to remain open for alternating traffic flow. Flaggers will be stationed to assist vehicles through the work zone.
