In a high-drama encounter that unfolded this Independence Day, Rancho Cucamonga deputies managed to apprehend a carjacking suspect following a chase and a collision just off the 210 Freeway. At precisely 2:01 p.m. on July 4, deputies located a recently stolen vehicle at the intersection of Haven Avenue and Civic Center Drive. The car had been violently snatched away in the city of Ontario minutes before, as reported by the SBSD - Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
The suspect, 30-year-old Anthony Ignacio of Jurupa Valley, attempted to flee after being tracked down by authorities, leading them on a pursuit stretching roughly 4 miles through Rancho Cucamonga. The chase came to a halt when Ignacio, to desperately escape, blew through a red light to ultimately crash into an unsuspecting motorist. Fleeing the wrecked car, Ignacio tried once more to hijack another vehicle, but deputies were quick to intervene and placed him under arrest, as per the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
His bail has been set at $100,000, and a court appearance is scheduled for July 8, in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court.
