
The Round Rock City Council has earmarked funds totaling $642,233 to bolster low-income housing support and other services geared towards the betterment of local communities, as determined in their July 11 meeting.
These funds, stemming from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, backed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, are designated for a plethora of initiatives including home repairs, park improvements, meals for the elderly, housing assistance, food pantry support, and child advocacy programs for the upcoming fiscal year beginning October 1, and stretching through to September 30, 2025 the funds will address a spectrum of crucial sectors that directly benefit the low- to moderate-income residents of Round Rock.
Specific allocations include $177,453 for the Home Repair program, $240,000 towards enhancing Greenhill Park, and smaller yet significant sums like $16,334 for the OWBC Meals on Wheels Program, an undertaking that feeds numerous elderly citizens every day, according to a post on the official City of Round Rock website.
"Last year, the Community Development Block Grant led to these developments in the City of Round Rock: Construction of new sidewalks in the Chisholm Valley Neighborhood, Purchase and installation of an ADA playground at Frontier Park, Rehabilitation of homes for low to moderate income residents, Funding for non-profits that provide much needed public services to the community, Purchase and installation of 7 bus shelters in low to moderate income areas," the website highlighted showcasing the tangible benefits of the CDBG endeavors evident throughout the city extending into infrastructural improvements that aid in everyday life.
Moreover, the City Council took definitive steps forward in long-term planning by approving the five-year Consolidated Plan for 2024-2028, setting its sights on affordable housing, community services, and infrastructural enhancements as primary objectives, these decisions were influenced by direct feedback from the community meetings and a needs survey undertaken by the city.
