The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a heat advisory for the upcoming week, starting tomorrow at 11 AM through Wednesday evening at 11 PM. Residents in the Central Sacramento Valley, Motherlode, Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley, Northern Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, and Southern Sacramento Valley are encouraged to prepare for sweltering conditions with widespread triple-digit temperatures forecast. According to the NWS Sacramento Weather Forecast, this stint of heat follows a brief respite received from the cooling Delta breeze but is expected to ramp up the HeatRisk to major levels across the affected areas.

The oppressive heat seems to be on a mandate to revisit after today's cooler weather, promising to not only bring back the extreme temperatures but to also pull in monsoonal moisture that could lead to isolated thunderstorms in the mountains. "The NBM showing a 20-40% chance along the crest, highest probabilities are south of I-80," the National Weather Service advised, noting that these thunderstorms could bring along erratic winds and lightning – potential catalysts for new wildfires. Officials urge caution, particularly in areas prone to wildfire ignition due to such inclement weather patterns.

In the Valley, temperatures are expected to hover in the lower 80s even through the night, offering minimal relief from the day's broil. The advisory still serves as a reminder to residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities during peak heat hours. The National Weather Service has indicated the highest temperatures will be felt in the northern Sacramento Valley.

Relief is slated to onset by the latter half of the week, with Thursday marking the beginning of a cooling trend that should extend through the weekend. The National Weather Service's extended discussion suggests a 50-90% probability of temperatures falling below 100 degrees Fahrenheit by the weekend in the southern Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys, courtesy of a positively tilted trough that is expected to influence Northern California. "This will result in breezy onshore flow through the Valley/Delta and dry air advection that will limit thunderstorm potential over the Sierra through the weekend," NWS state.

As for aviation interests, VFR conditions are predicted for the next 24 hours, with possible isolated thunderstorms along the Sierra crest from 22Z through about 02Z Monday. Surface gusts are projected to stay below 12 knots, except in the vicinity of the west Delta where they could reach 25-30 knots. Pilots and travelers are advised to stay abreast of the latest developments before making plans.
