As we gear up for Independence Day celebrations, the City of San Antonio is putting safety first. Fireworks, while a traditional staple of the holiday, come with a set of legal and physical risks. According to the City of San Antonio official website, setting off fireworks within the city limits is not only prohibited but could also lead to a hefty fine of up to $2,000.
Fireworks might dazzle the sky, but they also pose a serious danger to those on the ground. Past celebrations have seen their fair share of injuries, which is why authorities are urging residents to call 9-1-1 if they, or someone they know, are hurt because of fireworks. In the event of reckless usage that might result in injury or fire, the San Antonio Police Department has provided a Non-Employment number to report such activities: 210-207-7273.
The SAPD has assured that calls related to fireworks will be prioritized, responding based on the perceived risk and other calls that may be coming in at the same time. The city is promoting a number of public events where professional fireworks will light up the sky. These controlled exhibitions provide a safer alternative to personal, and potentially illegal, fireworks displays.
