Authorities in San Antonio issued a shelter-in-place order on Monday night after reports emerged of an older man allegedly firing shots at random at a northwest-side apartment complex. The chaos ensued around 10 p.m. near Glen Ridge Drive and Evers Road, leading to a prolonged standoff between police and the suspect. KENS 5 reports the man's bullets pierced some apartment units, though no injuries were reported.
Following a standoff that lasted over four hours, SAPD's entry into the man's residence confirmed he was not present. Despite the suspect's absence, the situation resulted in residents being evacuated as officers swept the area. SAPD Public Information Officer Camelia Juarez conveyed to KENS 5 that "police know who the suspect is and are working to detain him." Residents were allowed to return around midnight once the area was deemed safe.
While it remains unclear what prompted the suspect to open fire, SAPT responded to a similar incident involving a suspicious vehicle and someone firing shots the previous day in the same vicinity, delegating the probability that both incidents involved the same individual.
