Changes in traffic patterns are on the horizon for Santa Clarita residents as the Traffic and Pedestrian Circulation and Safety Improvements Project, a federally-funded initiative, kicks off construction for median modifications. According to an announcement by the City of Santa Clarita, starting July 29, roadwork will commence at the intersections of Golden Valley Road at Valley Center Drive and Soledad Canyon Road at Golden Oak Road.

Lane closures will disrupt the normal flow as crews work on median modifications, paving, grinding, and overlay operations at the first location, which aims to smooth the transition of traffic turning onto Valley Center Drive from Golden Valley Road. From July 29 through August 23, drivers will have to navigate around the permanent closure of two left turn lanes on Valley Center Drive at Golden Valley Road, one southbound through lane on Valley Center Drive, and one left turn lane on northbound Golden Valley Road at Valley Center Drive.

Additionally, Soledad Canyon Road at Golden Oak Road will see changes intended to improve the transit of vehicles around bus stops with the relocation of a bus stop, and during construction times - Monday through Friday, from 8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. - there will be a closure of one westbound through lane and the north sidewalk on Soledad Canyon Road. Commuters are advised that traffic signs will highlight the upcoming lane closures and are encouraged to plan their travels accordingly to avoid delays.

The City has asked the community to be cognizant of not just the closures but to adjust speed accordingly when driving through these construction zones, acknowledging the inconvenience these improvements may pose. The City thanks residents in advance for their patience and cooperation to ensure a swift and safe completion of the project.
