In a verdict that closes a tragic chapter of violence in South Sacramento, Trey Hallman has been found guilty of a 2019 triple shooting that left one dead and two others severely injured. CBS News Sacramento reported that Hallman entered his former residence on the early morning of August 23, 2019, clad in body armor and armed with a 9mm handgun. Stealthily through the backdoor, he went upstairs and opened fire on his sleeping former roommates.
During the ordeal, one of his victims, Terrell Brown, was declared brain dead nearly a week following the shooting, wearing body armor, as he walked through the backdoor. According to reports from the ABC10, the other two victims sustained serious injuries but have recovered since the incident. Hallman fled to the Bay Area post-shootout and under the persuasion of text messages from law enforcement, he eventually surrendered to police in Antioch, where they found the gun used in the shooting in his car.
On June 27, after deliberation, a jury convicted Hallman on counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder. This trial culminated nearly five years of legal proceedings and examinations that challenged not only the fabric of the Sacramento community but also the nature of accountability in the face of unspeakable violence. Hallman, who pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, was found legally sane during the commission of his crimes.
As the community grapples with the weight of this verdict, Hallman awaits sentencing set for August 30 at 1:30 p.m., facing a life altered by his actions, a maximum sentence of 114 years to life in prison is looming over him. In the wake of this tragedy, one can only hope that healing and justice for the victims and their families may begin to take root.
